NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 27 July 2018

Marc J. Spears (ESPN) interviews Paul George on his decision to stay in OKC: “It was absolutely tempting,” George said. “Honestly, I wanted to come back home. But again, I got traded to Oklahoma. Loved the situation. Loved where I was at. I decided to stick around a little longer.”

Jemele Hill (The Undefeated) interviews Carmelo Anthony on his one season in OKC: “To get bought out, to get waived, you were looked at like, you’re done,” said Anthony, who was in Washington, D.C., to attend a private Nike event Wednesday night. “Now, it’s just almost like the norm. If something doesn’t work, go ahead and get a buyout or go ahead and get traded. That’s the new norm in our society in basketball. I had to get over that.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 27 July 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 26 July 2018

img_4063Zac Oakes (A Sea of Blue) on Hamidou Diallo signing with the Thunder: “He came close to never playing a game for Kentucky, as he put his name into the draft in 2017, though he withdrew and returned to Kentucky. He would go on to finish fourth in scoring for Kentucky this past season, averaging an even 10 points per game.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) on what the signing of Diallo could mean to the rest of the roster: “In order to free up a roster spot and alleviate luxury tax burdens this season, the Thunder could stretch Singler’s contract over three seasons at an average of $1.6 million per season. But, like the Carmelo Anthony trade which was finalized on Wednesday, the Thunder would prefer to get return via a trade rather than waiving Singler.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 26 July 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 23 July 2018

Lawrence George (Thunderous Intentions) looks at three things Dennis Schröder brings to the Thunder: “However, the OKC Thunder have taken risks on restoring players reputations (insert Dion Waiters and Enes Kanter) before, thus Schroder certainly fits the mold. He’s had his fair share of off-court problems in Atlanta (clashing with coaching, fellow players and a pending court case) but Schroder holds tremendous value for the Thunder.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) says Dennis Schröder is the Thunder latest reclamation project: “The Thunder, however, has done its due diligence on Schroder, just like it did with prior players that teams gave up. Those players didn’t come with legal trouble, but trouble all their own.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 23 July 2018

Shout-out to NTTB co-host Anthony Montero (@Montero_A13) who celebrates a birthday today. Y’all send him some birthday love via the Twitter.

Erik Horne (NewsOK) recaps the Thunder’s 92-85 loss to the Grizzlies in the summer league playoffs: “Hamilton after halftime. The 2016 second-rounder was particularly good in the third quarter, probing in the halfcourt and initiating the fast break with good decisions for five assists. Hamilton committed just two turnover after halftime, his pace and decisiveness in transition helping the Thunder surge back in the second half.”

Nick Gallo (OKCThunder.com) chronicles Devon Hall in summer league: “We feel like we know him really, really well,” Dawkins said. “He’s a guy that was an All-ACC defender. He’s a guy who improved his shooting every single year he was in college, attempts and accuracy. He’s able to play on the ball, off the ball. We’re interested in seeing him just kind of get on the floor and just fit in with our other wings and have a chance to play there.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 13 July 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 11 July 2018

img_4063Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN) on the imminent departure of Carmelo Anthony from the Thunder: “The Thunder are working on trade scenarios in which Anthony, 34, would be moved as an expiring contract and waived, becoming a free agent once his $27.9 million 2017-18 salary clears waivers. Oklahoma City needs Anthony to waive his no-trade clause, which he has done to facilitate his exit, league sources said.”

Brett Dawson (NewsOK) says Terrance Ferguson’s summer league struggles are part of the developmental plan: “Ferguson came here to work on expanding his game, on playing with the ball as well as off it, on showing more than just spot-up jump shots and a transition finishes. But growing means learning, and the Thunder staff has taught him a lot. That’s why, Ferguson said, assistant coach Darko Rajakovic pulled Ferguson aside at a recent practice and preached patience.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 11 July 2018

NTTB Rumblings – 18 June 2018

img_4063Happy belated Father’s Day to all the Thunder daddies in the world. May your Sunday have been as rocking as your paternal instincts.

Brett Dawson (NewsOK) on the firing of Thunder broadcaster Brian Davis: “The statement read: “The Thunder has made a decision to go in a different direction. We greatly appreciate Brian’s contributions to the Thunder organization over the past 10 years and we wish him well in the future. In conjunction with Fox Sports Oklahoma, the Thunder will now begin the search for a new play-by-play announcer.”

Dawson on an ad companies sales pitch to one, LeBron James: “Reince is the digital and national sales coordinator for Lamar Advertising in Oklahoma City, and he’s the man behind electronic billboard displays you might see on Friday, reading in white writing against a dark background, “#LeBron2OKC.” Continue reading NTTB Rumblings – 18 June 2018

NTTB Rumblings – 14 May 2018

img_4063Jeff Olalo (CluthPoints) on Russell Westbrook releasing some shoes that were inspired by his son, Noah: “With the release of his signature performance shoe the WhyNot Zer0.1 “Noah” – the seven-time NBA All Star credits his son by not only naming it after him, but also using an Emerald colorway inspired by his birthstone. Even better, the launch date is just around the same time of Noah’s birthday, which is on May 16th and is inscribed on the inside strap.”

Berry Tramel (NewsOK) on what others are saying about Nick Collison’s retirement: “But time is merciless, and eventually it relegated Collison to a lesser role. By the 2014 playoffs, even against Memphis, the team for which he was born to play against, Collison’s value was diminished. He hadn’t even played in Game 7 of the first-round series against the Grizzlies, and through five games of the West semifinals against the Clippers, Collison had played only 37 minutes, some of it garbage time.” Continue reading NTTB Rumblings – 14 May 2018

NTTB Rumblings – 17 April 2018

img_4063Nick Gallo (OKCThunder.com) on what needs to continue into Game 2: “One of the major bright spots for the Thunder on Sunday, and a development that needs to hold firm, was the play of Anthony on the defensive end and around the rim. After an early adjustment to drop the veteran forward into coverage on pick and rolls, Anthony was able to use his quickness and sleight of hand to make 3 steals and 2 blocks to go with 7 rebounds. On many occasions, Anthony was the last line of defense between the Jazz and a potential layup or a put back, and he held firm with toughness and veteran guile.”

Brad Rock (Desert News) on the Thunder being what the Jazz want to be one day: “So here we go with the country-speak: The Oklahoma City Thunder are what the Utah Jazz want to be when they’re all growed up. Trailing 1-0 in their best-of-seven series, the Jazz aren’t conceding anything. It’s just that OKC is what the Jazz want to be, i.e., a seriously strong team in a relatively underrated city.” Continue reading NTTB Rumblings – 17 April 2018
