There are times where basketball takes a backseat. Whether it’s the death of a loved one or a personal set-back, the human aspect of athletics usually gets lost in the minutiae of sports. On Wednesday, Paul George missed the Thunder’s preseason opener due to a personal matter. That personal matter turned out to be the passing of his girlfriend’s father. Thunder At A Glance – 04 October 2018

img_4063The Topic: Thunder crew recaps the Pistons game on their first recap podcast.

Erik Horne (NewsOK) with one of the major developments from the Thunder’s first preseason game: The Dennis Schröder/Steven Adams pick and roll: ““I spend time with him, mate,” Adams said of the chemistry between him and Schroder. “It’s more about finding out what you like, where you’re looking. Whenever you’re trying to figure out their body language in terms of them coming off screens, how they’re setting up, it helps on both sides. Especially with the passes, he will ask me what type of passes I like. It just comes down to that.” Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 04 October 2018

Thunder At A Glance – 18 September 2018

img_4063Nick Gallo (OKCThunder.com) on Steven Adams being the Thunder’s center of gravity: “The same can be said of the Thunder big man’s impact on the defensive side of the ball. With precise and deliberate communication and quick feet, Adams helps guards stay in front of the ball in pick and roll coverage. He can even switch out to the three-point line when it’s necessary or there’s a good matchup. With each successive year, the force that Adams brings to the team continues to grow, and that consistent improvement is why he’s become one of the most essential players on the Thunder’s roster and one of the very best centers in the NBA.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) on the Blue’s acquisition of KJ McDaniels: “G-League contracts are with the league, not with the parent teams. McDaniels currently doesn’t have an NBA contract, but if he were to enter into a G League contract, the Blue, not the Thunder, would own his rights. The Blue would also own McDaniels’ rights if he were to play overseas, then return and sign a G League contract.” Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 18 September 2018

Thunder At A Glance – 13 September 2018

img_4063Royce Young (ESPN) on the news of Russell Westbrook having arthroscopic knee surgery on his right knee: “Westbrook experienced some stiffness in the knee over the past week during individual workouts while preparing for training camp. He elected to have a standard scope as a pre-emptive “maintenance” procedure rather than potentially dealing with issues throughout the season.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) talks to NBATV about the Westbrook surgery.

OKCThunder.com looks at the summer that Alex Abrines had: “Abrines took the leap with his longtime girlfriend Carla this summer, and the Thunder will be looking for him to do the same on the court heading into training camp and the 2018-19 campaign. In a league that relies massively on shooting and playmaking from the perimeter, Abrines holds the qualities that could make him a crucial member of the rotation. The key, however, is for those offensive gifts to be combined with a defensive integrity and versatility that fits into the Thunder’s gameplan.” Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 13 September 2018

Thunder At A Glance – 04 September 2018

img_4063On the new NTTB Podcast, we discuss the waiving of Kyle Singler, the salary cap implications associated with that move, and preview the Central Division.

Joseph Zucker (Bleacher Report) on Kevin Durant’s initial reaction when the Thunder drafted Steven Adams: “Instead, Adams was the choice. He spent one year at Pittsburgh, averaging 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. While Adams flashed plenty of potential, many assumed he’d need a year or two of seasoning before he could contribute to the Thunder in a meaningful way.”

Kaushik Turlapaty (SportsKeeda) looks back at the top 10 scoring efforts in Russell Westbrook’s career.  Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 04 September 2018

Thunder At A Glance – 30 August 2018

img_4063Jeff Siegel (UPROXX) on the crucial role Steven Adams plays on the Thunder: “While Westbrook certainly has moments in which he eschews his defensive responsibilities in favor of getting to the glass, there’s no ignoring the fact that letting their point guard grab and go immediately is a positive for the Thunder as a whole.”

Nick DePaula (ESPN) on the crazy colorways that are coming your way this season: “For the first time in league history, the NBA will allow players to wear sneakers of any color at any point during the upcoming season, league sources confirmed. The rule change is part of the NBA’s ongoing effort to allow its players to be expressive on the court.” Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 30 August 2018

Thunder At A Glance – 29 August 2018

img_4063Cody Taylor (OKC Thunder Wire) on the Thunder having three of the highest salaries in the league: “The Thunder are among seven teams with three players that are inside the top 50 in salary for the 2018-19 season, including the Celtics, Rockets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Raptors and Wizards.”

Anath Pandian (24/7 Sports) interviews Enes Kanter: “Yeah, because I remember from Day 1, not just the whole [Thunder] organization, but the people here, the fans, it was like home for me. Because I did not have a home.” Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 29 August 2018
