Thunder At A Glance – 30 August 2018

img_4063Jeff Siegel (UPROXX) on the crucial role Steven Adams plays on the Thunder: “While Westbrook certainly has moments in which he eschews his defensive responsibilities in favor of getting to the glass, there’s no ignoring the fact that letting their point guard grab and go immediately is a positive for the Thunder as a whole.”

Nick DePaula (ESPN) on the crazy colorways that are coming your way this season: “For the first time in league history, the NBA will allow players to wear sneakers of any color at any point during the upcoming season, league sources confirmed. The rule change is part of the NBA’s ongoing effort to allow its players to be expressive on the court.” Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 30 August 2018

Thunder At A Glance – 28 August 2018

img_4063Brett Dawson (NewsOK) on the Thunder’s signing of Clemson star Donte Grantham: “The 6-foot-8 Grantham averaged 14.2 points and 6.9 rebounds as a senior at Clemson, but his season was cut short on Jan. 20, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.”

The Thunder’s G-League affiliate, the Blue, released their regular season schedule on Monday.  Continue reading Thunder At A Glance – 28 August 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 20 August 2018

img_4063Nick Gallo (OKCThunder.com) on the resilliency of Andre Roberson during his rehab process: “At the beginning of August, he joined some teammates in Los Angeles for informal workouts, participating in what he could. A couple weeks later, he ran. He didn’t get very far, but that’s because his sprinting came on a high-speed treadmill. It was a proud moment that Roberson showed to the world on Instagram, and a sign that even if Roberson isn’t completely back to 100 percent, both his health and his confidence are heading that direction.”

A great piece by Brett Dawson (NewsOK) on how the last 10 years of Thunder basketball have helped shape Oklahoma City: “According to data provided to the Thunder by the city, each home game translates to $1.5 million in economic impact for OKC. That’s almost $700 million since the team arrived in 2008. Since the Thunder arrived, downtown’s residential growth has outpaced the city’s as a whole. There are more than 5,000 residential units downtown, a dramatic increase since 2008.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 20 August 2018

The Thunder’s Summer of Love

abrines dre weddingIf the Oklahoma City Thunder’s summer could be encapsulated into one word, that word would be “love”. Not that smooshy, Barney-inspired “I love you, you love me” love. No. What the Thunder have shown this offseason is love that is running hand in hand with their maturing nature. This isn’t a bunch of 20-somethings planning how they are going to get laid on a Saturday night. It’s not Thunder U, anymore. The Thunder’s core is past the point where words like love, marriage, and monogamy are just reserved for the 12-year vet at the end of the bench. They are, in a word, getting older.

As fans, we sometimes view athletes as overgrown teenagers with huge allowances. Man-children looking for the next great thrill after the game. A player gets into a bar fight: Oh, that’s just boys being boys. A players ends up with 8 children from 6 different women. Welp, that’s athletes for you. We celebrate the man’s man, living the single, athlete life vicariously through our favorite ball players. Continue reading The Thunder’s Summer of Love

Weekend Programming

Russell Westbrook, Hamidou Diallo, Terrance Ferguson, Deonte Burton, Devon Hall, and Kyle Singler took their skills to the Rico Hines Run at UCLA. Can’t wait for the season!

And not to be undone, Russell opened up the gym to some of his Thunder teammates for an unofficial pre-training camp practice. If this doesn’t get you hyped for the season, then I can’t help you.

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 01 August 2018

Bryan Kalbrosky (HoopsHype) on the possibility of Kevin Durant returning to the Thunder: “Westbrook and Durant played together on the All-Star team last season and they’re currently practicing alongside each other for Team USA. While it’s likely not something they’re constantly discussing, it’s hard to imagine the topic has not even come up in conversation while in such close proximity.”

The Thunder announce their 2018 preseason schedule.

Ti Windisch (FanSided) is not a big fan of Dennis Schröder playing alongside Russell Westbrook: “Billy Donovan will not have it easy with that decision. He might even catch the blame for those two not working together, which is tough. Schroder just isn’t useful without the ball in his hands, and he’s not nearly good enough to justify Russell Westbrook not having it when they’re on the floor together.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 01 August 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 24 July 2018

img_4063Tim Bontemps (Washington Post) says the Thunder didn’t make a mistake in trading for Carmelo Anthony: “Before the Anthony trade, the Thunder was a franchise in a state of flux. Russell Westbrook had yet to sign a long-term contract extension, and there was no guarantee he would. Paul George had been acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Indiana Pacers three months earlier, giving Oklahoma City a second star to pair with Westbrook after Kevin Durant departed in free agency, but there was no indication George would stick around for the long term.”

Kevin O’Connor (The Ringer) on how the acquisition of Dennis Schröder may help change Russell Westbrook: “But Oklahoma City’s style needs to change, and Donovan knows it. The Thunder have ranked near the bottom of the league in passing metrics—from possession time to assists—during Donovan’s tenure, but he regularly says during his press conferences that he wants better movement.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 24 July 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 23 July 2018

img_4063Make sure you check out the latest episode of the NTTB Podcast.

Lawrence George (Thunderous Intentions) looks at three things Dennis Schröder brings to the Thunder: “However, the OKC Thunder have taken risks on restoring players reputations (insert Dion Waiters and Enes Kanter) before, thus Schroder certainly fits the mold. He’s had his fair share of off-court problems in Atlanta (clashing with coaching, fellow players and a pending court case) but Schroder holds tremendous value for the Thunder.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) says Dennis Schröder is the Thunder latest reclamation project: “The Thunder, however, has done its due diligence on Schroder, just like it did with prior players that teams gave up. Those players didn’t come with legal trouble, but trouble all their own.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 23 July 2018
