The Oklahoma City Thunder lost to the Memphis Grizzlies yesterday in the Las Vegas Summer League playoffs and have now been relegated to a consolation game. In that game, the Thunder will face the Orlando Magic, who come into the game with an identical record of 2-2.
Thunder center Dakari Johnson missed the Grizzlies game with a hip injury. At this point it is unknown if he will suit up for this game. In his place, Oklahoma State’s Michael Cobbins scored 10 points, but failed to grab a rebound in 15 minutes of action. Hamidou Diallo was once again impressive in this game, scoring 14 points on 6-10 shooting and grabbing 5 rebounds. Deonte Burton and Rashawn Thomas also had double-figure scoring nights.
For Orlando, their summer league ended with a loss to the 22nd ranked Utah Jazz. The Magic are led by second year forward Jonathan Isaac, who is averaging 14.3 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game this summer. Highly regarded rookie big man Mo Bamba is averaging 8.7 points, 5.7 boards, and 2.3 blocks. Wes Iwundu and Tony Caupain have been the other stand-outs for the Magic.
This game will determine whether either team walks out of Vegas with a winning record. For the Thunder, that would be a good start to their season, considering they entered this summer league with 3 second rounders to work in. Overall, I think it’s been a successful summer league for the Thunder and a winning record would just be the cherry on top.
