NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 06 August 2018

img_4063

Check out the new episode of the NTTB Podcast, where we christen the Westbrooks with the name of their new bundle of joy, we discuss who should start at power forward, and we discuss the LeBron James vs. Donald Trump debate.

Nick Gallo (OKCThunder.com) looks at what Patrick Patterson can bring to the Thunder this upcoming season: “A step behind to start the year, Patterson’s role ended up being a 15-minute-per-game player, with averages of 3.9 points on an admirable 38.6 percent three-point shooting, along with 2.4 rebounds per game. In 2018-19, the Thunder and Patterson himself believe he can contribute more, not just on the stat sheet but also in terms of the team’s overall gameplay and style.”

Gallo (OKCThunder.com) chronicled the Thunder’s day at Lake Castaic in Paul George’s fishing tournament: “But then came one of the final boats, which included Nader, the newcomer to the Thunder roster who hadn’t fished before despite always enjoying the outdoors. Throughout the 6 hours on the lake, George, Westbrook and Roberson had been visible and camped out along the shore line. Nader was nowhere to be found. Turns out he and his professional partner knew Castaic’s secrets, because they brought back the limit – five bass fish – including the biggest fish of the day at 4 pounds, 12 ounces.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 06 August 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 26 July 2018

img_4063Zac Oakes (A Sea of Blue) on Hamidou Diallo signing with the Thunder: “He came close to never playing a game for Kentucky, as he put his name into the draft in 2017, though he withdrew and returned to Kentucky. He would go on to finish fourth in scoring for Kentucky this past season, averaging an even 10 points per game.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) on what the signing of Diallo could mean to the rest of the roster: “In order to free up a roster spot and alleviate luxury tax burdens this season, the Thunder could stretch Singler’s contract over three seasons at an average of $1.6 million per season. But, like the Carmelo Anthony trade which was finalized on Wednesday, the Thunder would prefer to get return via a trade rather than waiving Singler.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 26 July 2018

NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 10 July 2018

img_4063Nick Gallo (OKCThunder.com) on Nerlens Noel’s upcoming season of redemption: “This is something I’ve been really wanting my whole life, just to be on a talented team that can really complement my skill set and really show what I’m really about and go out on the court and play my game with no hesitation. Coach Billy has given me the utmost confidence since I’ve been talking to him day by day. Just go out there and play your game. There’s nothing in it besides basketball and just being yourself. I felt really accepted.”

Gallo (OKCThunder.com) on Hamidou Diallo’s potential in Las Vegas: “Offensively, Diallo broke through with an impressive performance that included 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 8 rebounds. He made a pair of made three-pointers with solid shooting form, hit a long two-point jumper and likely the play of the game, a vicious baseline drive that culminated in a two-handed flush. Diallo isn’t heralded as a scorer coming out of college, but as a 19-year old he obviously still has plenty of room to grow.” Continue reading NTTB Thunder Rumblings – 10 July 2018

NTTB Rumblings – 16 May 2018

img_4063Erik Horne (NewsOK) looks at Andre Roberson’s value to the Thunder: “The injury had elements of a Greek tragedy. The Thunder’s defense carried it through the first two months of the season as the offense finally came around in December. The demolition of the Pistons was the apex — the Thunder overwhelming them on both ends with Roberson at the core, snatching defensive rebounds and starting the fast break, cutting to the basket for give-and-go layups off Steven Adams post passes, shutting off drives to force ball reversals and turnovers.”

Albert Dadson (Hoops Habit) says the Thunder need to try and get into the first round: “An interesting place that Carmelo may not agree to go but would be a place where he could win again is Philadelphia. The Philadelphia 76ers will more than likely have two first round picks after the Los Angeles Lakers’ pick falls out of the first three slots, in addition to their own pick at No. 26. That second first round pick would be the one to target, though again, expecting a first-rounder for Melo at this stage is an uphill battle.” Continue reading NTTB Rumblings – 16 May 2018

NTTB Rumblings – 09 May 2018

Dr. Rajal Brar (The Injury Insight) gives an in-depth look at Andre Roberson’s injury and recovery: “Think about it like this:  You’re about to do an explosive dumbbell curl with a light weight (lets say 5 pounds) and as you’re about to intensely curl the arm up, an additional 50 pounds is added.  You’re making a forceful contraction against a weight that you weren’t ready for or expecting – that’s a recipe for overloading the muscle and tearing fibers.  That’s what happened to Roberson – in his case a complete rupture.”

Kyle Newport (Bleacher Report) on the idea around the league that the Thunder should trade Russell Westbrook: “There’s an increasing number of people around the league who think the Thunder should look at trading [Russell] Westbrook. To be clear, not a report. Not Thunder sources think they should do this. Just in spitballing ideas with teams around the league, there’s a number of people who have heard, just like, ‘It’s time for something to change here.'” Continue reading NTTB Rumblings – 09 May 2018

NTTB Rumblings – 16 February 2018

img_4063Kyle Wagner (FiveThirtyEight) on the effect Andre Roberson’s absence is having on the team: “But the Thunder have yet to capitalize on the additional space available with Roberson out. Westbrook has played well in some ways, creating at James Harden/Chris Paul levels on the pick and roll, and poorly in others, shooting just 43 percent from the field and 18 percent from the three in the games since Roberson’s injury. George has been hot from the three — he’s hit at least five 3-pointers in four consecutive games — and has averaged 29.6 points on a 62 effective field goal percentage through those 10 games. But Anthony has gone absolutely dormant, and both he and Westbrook missed two games to injury.”

Dan Woike (LA Times) on Russell Westbrook’s defining characteristics even being there in high school: “Arturo Jones, the current basketball coach at Leuzinger, helped out with the program while Westbrook was in school and said some of the things that stand out about him now were apparent then. “He was always a hard worker,” Jones said. “His trajectory always continued to grow.” Continue reading NTTB Rumblings – 16 February 2018
