NTTB Rumblings – 18 June 2018

img_4063Happy belated Father’s Day to all the Thunder daddies in the world. May your Sunday have been as rocking as your paternal instincts.

Brett Dawson (NewsOK) on the firing of Thunder broadcaster Brian Davis: “The statement read: “The Thunder has made a decision to go in a different direction. We greatly appreciate Brian’s contributions to the Thunder organization over the past 10 years and we wish him well in the future. In conjunction with Fox Sports Oklahoma, the Thunder will now begin the search for a new play-by-play announcer.”

Dawson on an ad companies sales pitch to one, LeBron James: “Reince is the digital and national sales coordinator for Lamar Advertising in Oklahoma City, and he’s the man behind electronic billboard displays you might see on Friday, reading in white writing against a dark background, “#LeBron2OKC.”

Dawson on the availability of good players later in the draft: “When you gamble in the second round of the NBA Draft — where the Thunder holds the No. 53 and 57 picks on Thursday — the odds of a payoff like Thomas are low. But the risk is even lower, and that makes the play worthwhile.”

Jon Hamm (Bleacher Report) on the rhetorical scenario of Kevin Durant returning back to OKC: “KD may need a new challenge one day. If he does, his next chapter could happen somewhere with a little less cushion. The NBA would be his buffet if he ever did. If he follows James’ career arc, that would logically lead him back to Oklahoma City.”

Erik Horne (NewsOK) on what it would cost for the Thunder to move up in the draft: “The Thunder is familiar with trading two second-round picks for a first. Back in 2008, the then-Seattle SuperSonics traded their 32nd and 46th overall picks for the rights to Detroit’s 29th overall selection. That became D.J. White.”

JC Ansis (ESPN-Philippines) on Donovan Mitchell’s rookie moment with Russell Westbrook: “I played against Russell Westbrook the first time, and you watch enough highlights of the guy, so you kind of know what he’s gonna do. I said something to him like, “Good move.” He looked at me and said, “Why you talking to me?” That was kind of like my rookie moment, I guess you could say.”

Ben Felderstein (SneakerNews) with a look at the new colorway for the new Westbrook Why Not Zer0.1’s.

NewsHub New Zealand on Steven Adams snubbing The Tall Blacks: “Potter said their discussion with the Thunder has led them to believe the NBA side are perfectly fine with Adams playing international basketball – but the Kiwi doesn’t feel up to it.”

There are bachelor parties. Then there are “my friend is an international NBA player” bachelor parties.
